Advice On The V70R...

I'm in a really bad spot with it right now. Dad bitches about it every day. I can't really drive it out of fear of the whole gearbox going kaboom. I need it gone by Tuesday though because then grandma comes and takes the Civic... I can't be stuck driving the Volvo. How do I list this on CL? It's a really good parts car... but its technically is still drive-able and has the title. I'm ready to just take $1600 and go with it. Please help. I'm in bad shape.

Are there any organizations you can donate it to? Sure, that may not help you financially, but they can probably fix it up quickly enough and provide it to somebody who needs it, and you'll be doing a good deed. Beyond that, I can't suggest much short of CL and eBay.

No reason to list as a parts car. That'll make the perceived value even less. Make your ad, including a few mentions that yes the transmission could go at any time, and ask your price. Be sure to insert the various values (kbb, nada, all those places that people feel are solid gold and such) and reference the transmission as being the only part causing the loss in value. You may get some asshats, but someone who knows what they're looking at will likely give you a ring

That person likely has a transmission ready to be dropped in the V already

How much have you had it listed at? I wouldn't ask $1600, maybe $2000 and the lowest you will go is $1600. Just say transmission issues. It's not lying and you're not really concealing information because that's all you know. If you knew the problem you'd have fixed it. Put motivated seller in your ad. That worked for me. Sold the vert for $1500.

I've got it at $2200 now. Think I'll just make another ad and put $2000... maybe itll get a lot of results for people putting in a $2000 cap.

Thats exactly my fear... I dont want to do that and got offers for like $700 because the interior is worth that alone.

My issue is so far I haven't had one person interested in it for the R factor.. they all wanted a cheap reliable daily which it isnt right now.

I did love it... until recently when I pretty much lost 3rd gear. Its code P0785 (3-2 shift solenoid) so it is mis-shifting about 70% of the time according to my code reader. It pretty much won't go into 3rd while accelerating. Downshifting is fine and I can lock it right into 3rd, but under acceleration, it'll go 1st, second, delay.... delay... REDLINE 1st, than rough shudder into 4th....

No, it's not the most ethical thing to do. But it's honest enough that you could get away with it and not feel bad about it.

No sadly.. Which is why it's going to cost so much if I try and get a shop to fix it. The P80 Volvos in general were not the best, especially with this 5 speed auto.

Seems like a ton of manufacturers had issues with transmissions in the late 90's early 00's. Wish I could help, but sadly all I can offer is googling that you have surely done already.

"A is worth X alone" arguments usually don't really hold water when you're selling a car. Especially one in your current state.

Reading all of your posts about this thing, you have a car plagued with electrical gremlins, a dying transmission, and is wholly unreliable.

Maybe if it were immaculate, but with just drivetrain problems, but it isn't.

You need it gone by Tuesday? You need to be willing to drop that internal threshold price. You are desperate and the car is a burden on you and a nuisance for your family. You have no leverage unfortunately.

I would hope you're as honest as possible as well ("not a a daily driver/ something wrong with 3rd gear") but it doesn't mean you're sabotaging yourself. You're far more likely to sell that thing if you're honest upfront. People respond to that.

I don't know what that car is worth in good condition, but perhaps the price you have on this one as it stands needs adjustment.

I've been honest and Im not hiding anything. I've done enough research to see what they go for. If I can't get $1500, something was seriously done wrong by me. I've seen wrecked ones going for $2000 which are in worse shape than mine.

My biggest issue is my time. I work and have school so I'm not as available as I'd like to be to show the car. I also don't have time to be parting it out otherwise I would.

More examples of how unfavorable your circumstances are, unfortunately. I wish you luck. But that thing has got to go. I ended up selling my truck to the first guy who looked at it, but it sat for 3+ weeks with no real interest before that.

At this point i'd just say go for it. If you don't get to fix it, at least you know you tried and you can part it out. And, if it works you have satisfaction in SPADES and a wagon to carry them.

You got to take alot less than 1600 bucks for it. I bought mine with no cel or any other issue besides for a spot of rust on the door for $500. Just take the money you can get and move on. Not to sound like an ass but you paid too much and got hosed. Just got to take your loss and move on down the road

850 and even the 960 rwd has the aw. The rwd ones last forever though, just like they do in Lexus

Just shows what I know about Volvo. Maybe it was newer ones that had a GM trans. Like S60/80. I don't know. Pretty sure it was a variation of a 4T65e.
